"When we speak truth to power we are ignored at best and brutally suppressed at worst"

Jeremy Hammond was sentenced today to 10 years in prison for hacking into computers of Stratfor, a private intelligence firm whose clients include governments, corporations, military and contractors. After Chris Hedges, Truthdig, met with Hammond earlier this week, he sat down with Paul Jay of The Real News to provide his perspective on Hammond, his work as a hacktivist and the valuable information the Stratfor leaks provided to an uninformed society –

Here’s a snippet from Hammond’s Statement to the Court posted by the sparrow project –

Good morning. Thank you for this opportunity. My name is Jeremy Hammond and I’m here to be sentenced for hacking activities carried out during my involvement with Anonymous. [Read more…]

Foreign holders of American debt

As has already been noted, in recent years the share of non-American holders of US Treasury securities has been wavering around the 50 percent mark. However, there has also been a visible trend to reduce the share of non-residents (from 52.9 percent at the end of 2008 to 47.9 percent in the middle of 2013). [Read more…]

Dear Ms. Lerner, sharing confidential IRS info with the FEC is a felony

Ruh roh, it’s looking like Ms. Lerner knowingly crossed a legal red line, but what’s glaring in her emails with the FEC is it appears, at least for her, the FEC’s request was standard operating procedure I dare say for both her and the FEC. Which leaves one wondering what other agencies or individuals she shared confidential IRS information with.

Reading Judicial Watch’s Weekly Update on the matter leaves one asking more questions. Click ‘full story’ to read their update which provides a link to the the Lerner emails. [Read more…]

UPDATE: Google's 'Floaters'

See UPDATE below. Anonymous sources aka Google employees tell San Francisco’s KPIX channel 5 what these Google ‘Floaters’ are about.

This structure, seen on a barge in Portland, Maine, could well be a Google floating data center. A very similar structure is under construction in San Francisco Bay.
(Credit: John Ewing/Portland Press Herald)

First, a four-story structure made out of ship containers was seen floating on a barge in San Francisco Bay, and now a second one has been spotted in Portland Maine. How many more are there and what is the owner, Google, up to?

Hhhmmm. Maybe Jon Stewart of the Daily Show can shed some light on these ‘Floaters’ – [Read more…]

Benghazi: "You are gonna get attacked. You are gonna get attacked in Benghazi. It's gonna happen. You need to change your security profile."

October 29, 2013

by Helen Tansey
The T-Room.us

14 months and a presidential election later, 60 Minutes finally reported what so many have testified to, investigated and written about – the truth behind the September 11, 2011 attack on the Benghazi compound which killed four Americans. Once again, just like every other terrorist attack that has occurred the CIA, NSA, State Department and every other US and British intelligence agency knew an attack in Libya on American assets was imminent –

Green Beret Commander, Lieutenant Colonel Andy Wood, was one of the top American security officials in Libya. Based in Tripoli, he met with Amb. Stevens every day.

The last time he went to Benghazi was in June, just three months before the attack. While he was there, al Qaeda tried to assassinate the British ambassador. Wood says, to him, it came as no surprise because al Qaeda — using a familiar tactic — had stated their intent in an online posting, [Read more…]

Toast and butter

The anti-sat-fat message has been used effectively by food manufacturers to woo us away from whole, natural foods, such as butter, which is only minimally processed, on to their products, which are entirely the opposite, such as margarine.’ Photograph: Jupiterimages/Getty Images/Comstock Images

Government and health charities have been doling out duff healthy eating advice for decades, but when are they going to admit it? That’s the question raised by the remarks of cardiologist Aseem Malhotra, who writing in the BMJ has challenged the orthodoxy that [Read more…]
