A week ago, when we reported on a move by the Dutch central bank that ordered a pension fund to forcibly reduce its gold holdings, we speculated that “this latest gold confiscation equivalent event is most certainly coming to a banana republic near you.” And while we got the Banana republic right, the event that we are about to describe is not necessarily identical. It is much worse. A bill proposed in the State of Washington (House Bill 1716), by representatives Asay, Hurst, Klippert, Pearson, and Miloscia, whose alleged purpose is to regulate secondhand gold dealers, seeks to capture “the name, date of birth, sex, height, weight, race, and address and telephone number of the person with whom the transaction is made” or said otherwise, of every purchaser of gold in the state of Washington. Furthermore, if passed, Bill 1716 will record “a complete description of the property pledged, bought, or consigned, including the brand name, serial number, model number or name, any initials or engraving, size, pattern, and color or stone or stones” and of course price. I confess that since November I’ve been holding my breath, watching the clock for how long Tea Party newcomers could hold out against the entrenched Republican elite on Capitol Hill. Collapse was inevitable, however I admit to feeling bitterly surprised at how rapidly they have thrown in the towel.

For the record, most of the Tea Party quit their principles of liberty on February 14, 2011—20 days into the new Congress—when Tea Party leaders abruptly abandoned their opposition to the Patriot Act and voted to extend intrusive domestic surveillance, wire tapping and warrantless searches of American citizens.  In so doing, they exposed the fraud of their soaring campaign promises to defend the liberty of ordinary Americans, and fight government intrusions on freedom. All those wide eyed speeches that flowed with such thrilling devotions, all of it proved to be self-aggrandizing lies. [Read more…]

UPDATES: The height of hypocrisy shown by Sec'y Hillary Clinton

How does one talk about freedom and the people’s right to peacefully assemble, yet through action demonstrate the exact opposite? How is one to be taken seriously after witnessing such blatant hypocrisy?

What has happened to Hillary Clinton, or has she always been this shallow where I, as a former long-time supporter, never noticed? This video captures the essence of her hypocrisy. She could have easily stopped the violation of peaceful assembly by telling the police to leave Mr. McGovern alone, but she didn’t! Instead she just went on talking about people’s freedom. Wow! What chutzpah!  Shame on you, Mrs. Clinton! Shame on you!

This 71 year old man reportedly stood in the aisle w/a Veteran’s for Peace t-shirt with his back to Mrs. Clinton. It is reported that he never said a word nor did he take any action to disrupt Mrs. Clinton’s speech. Yet, while she is pontificating on and on about the right to assemble and protest, this 71 year old man, Ray McGovern, formal CIA Analyst, is forcefully accosted by the police and brutalized and for what? Peaceful assemblage. That’s what!

The average Wisconsin state employee gets $24,500 a year. That’s not a very big pension. The state pension plan, 15% of the money going into it each year is being paid out to Wall Street to manage the money. That’s a really huge high percentage to pay out to Wall Street to manage the money.

And the Governor has ordered the Wisconsin state police to arrest all of the Democratic State Senators and return them to the Capital, but the Senate Democrats have fled the state.

Conservative writers like Mish and Karl Denninger slam the protesters (they’re anti-union).

Indeed, the Democratic National Committee is apparently helping to organize the protests.

But Max Keiser writes:

It’s foolish to say these protests are about ‘labor’ or ‘unions.’ They’re about people getting their wealth stolen by banks. And whether it’s Cairo or Ohio, it’s the same banks. We are witnessing a Global Insurrection Against Banker Occupation.

Another poster writes:

The one good thing that has come out of this is simply the fact that, for right or for wrong, people are getting off their [back sides] and doing something about something.”

Apple CEO Steve Jobs, who recently took a medical leave of absence from his company, and Google chief executive Eric Schmidt will be among the attendees of President Obama’s event with business leaders in San Francisco Thursday evening, a source familiar with the event tells ABC News.

Earlier today, ABC News reported that one attendee would be 26-year-old founder of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg, according to a source familiar with the meeting.

Jobs has been the subject of tabloid rumors and rampant speculation about his health since announcing last month that was taking a medical leave for undisclosed reasons.

The middle class – school teachers, prison guards, healthcare providers, firefighters, police officers, daycare providers and more pounce on Capitol in Madison Wisconsin to defeat the Governor’s proposal to end “collective bargaining”. Me thinks the Republican newbie bit off more than he can chew – learn more HERE

UPDATE X1:  “The aide spoke on condition of anonymity, because she was not authorized to speak on behalf of her boss. Legislative assistants answering the phones at the offices of Sen. Jon Erpenbach of Middleton, Sen. Mark Miller of Monona and Sen. Fred Risser of Madison all insisted they knew nothing about the walkout.

However, at 11:30 a.m., when the session began — 30 minutes late — a roll call revealed that most if not all 14 Senate Democrats were absent. At 11:35, Republican Senate President Mike Ellis announced a “call of the house” to send police to force errant Democrats to return to the chamber.

“The Senate is now under a call of the house, and we will try to find the members who decided not to come to work today,” Ellis said as loud protesters sought to disrupt the session.

The Senate then adjourned, lacking enough of its 33 senators to act. Twenty are required and there are just 19 Republican Senators.

The Capitol was crowded shoulder to shoulder with protesters late Thursday morning especially near the Senate chambers chanting “Kill this bill,” and “Walker must go.”
