Christie’s last minute presser held on August 12 blasting Senate Dem’s for holding up his NJ Supreme Court appointments, which was then coincidentally followed by the now infamous 7:34 am August 13 email sent by his deputy chief of staff “Time for some traffic problems in Fort Lee” Bridget Anne Kelly –
After watching Maddow, I’m thinking the closure of the toll lanes to the GWB had nothing to do with a non endorsement by Ft Lee’s mayor. The act by Christie’s staff is way out of proportion to a simple non endorsement. Nope. The staff’s decision to close those lanes was intended to be punitive sending a message to someone who would be paying attention and that someone was certainly not the Mayor.
Chris Christie’s role in GWB bridge scandal questioned in wake of newly revealed e-mails
by Steve Strunsky
TRENTON — The release of a stunning series of e-mails implicating his administration in the controversial lane closures at the George Washington Bridge last September leaves Republican Gov. Chris Christie weathering his first major political scandal Wednesday, amid growing outcry over what some believe was a clandestine “dirty tricks” campaign.
The revelations showed that a key Christie aide — along with a longtime friend of the governor who landed a high-level job at the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey — was well aware that the lane shutdowns would lead to traffic jams. While no specific reason for the closures was given, the gridlock left Fort Lee paralyzed — a town run by a Democratic mayor they derisively referred to as “the Serbian,” who had refused to support the governor’s re-election.
The e-mails, made public Wednesday, sent shock waves through New Jersey’s political establishment and raised questions about how high up in the administration the bridge lane shutdown operation may have gone. At the same time, it left Christie struggling to reclaim a national profile built on the image of a straight-talking politician never afraid to say what he thinks.
The scandal left the governor uncharacteristically silent about the disclosures. He stayed behind closed doors and canceled several scheduled appearances, before issuing a statement saying he was misled by a member of his staff, and that “inappropriate and unsanctioned conduct was made without my knowledge.”
Meanwhile, a legislative committee later Thursday will turn up the heat on the matter with scheduled hearings in Trenton, as a key figure in the scandal filed court papers seeking to dismiss a subpoena ordering that he appear.
