We Are Change, WAC, caught up with Wespoint Grad, former Iraq Vet now turned grassroot activist Antonio Buehler to learn how he used Craigslist to fight a felony charge and won. According to WAC Buehler “was arrested for taking pictures of two cops abusing a woman they had pulled over in Austin, TX. He was accused of spitting in one of the cop’s face and charged with a felony.” Well, the cops lied. The spitting never occurred and the evidence to prove the cops wrong was a video recording of the entire incident by an unknown witness.
After being arrested and released, Buehler posted flyers and advertised on Craigslist seeking out the witnesses. Several came forward including the individual who captured it all on his phone. Fifteen months later a Grand Jury “no billed” the charge resulting in a vacated indictment.
Buehler has since started a grassroots project called the “Peaceful Streets Program” whose mission is “… community organizing, engaging in non-political and non-violent direct action tactics, and utilizing new technologies, the Peaceful Streets Project seeks to bring about a cultural shift where individuals understand their rights and hold law enforcement officials accountable, and communities protect and serve each other.”
Following is the interview We Are Change did with Buehler –
