The nuclear meltdown at the Fukushima Dai’Ichi power plant continues with no end in sight. Everyday we awake to fresh news about one of four reactors exploding, on fire or spewing white, grey or black fumes into the air we breath. Water used to cool the reactors has been freely flowing into the sea and ground water, thereby forever poisoning the very resource necessary to sustain life.

The good people in and around the area were evacuated over a week ago – first 3 then 10 now 20km. When the evacuee’s entered the evacuation centers they were promptly geigered, given face masks and Potassium Iodide to stave off the poisoning of radioactive material.

Outside the center, folks are learning their milk, food, tap and sea water are all reading high levels of radiation. Those who could afford to flee for safety left last week. The US military initially began voluntary evacuations of women and children last week, but has since made said evacuations mandatory.

Homes, businesses and entire towns are destroyed by the awesome force of mother nature. Thousands remain unaccounted for. Mass graves are filling up with the dead with the hope that some day some family member will identify the perished and provide them with a proper burial.

The air these people breath, the water they drink and the soil they till is poisoned forever.  There is no clean up process available for radioactive material. None. Zilch. Zip.

It must feel like a living hell in Japan these days.

Fukushima Dai’Ichi and Diani Nuclear Power Plants

It’s been 12 days since the 9.0 Miyagakin-Oki Earthquake, and it’s been 12 long days of unimaginable suffering. Suffering at the hands of Mother Nature, a secretive government and  an intensely controlled Corporation – Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO).

It is TEPCO who owns and operates Fukushima Dai’Ichi and Diani Nuclear Power Plants. Neighbors that are situated only a few yards from the Pacific ocean. Although the Fukushima Diani Nuclear power plant showed trouble at the beginning of this unfolding tragedy, it has been the Fukushima Dai’Ichi plant that has remained the focal point of the world.

Both power plants are in the same neighborhood – Fukui Prefect, both plants were hit by the same amount of water and velocity, both plants have back-up diesel generators and both plants have a back-up battery system used as last resort. As stated above the Diani plant had problems in the first two days, but the crew quickly overcame the challenges and shutdown the plant with no reported events since March 13, 2011.

The same cannot be said for the Dai’Ichi plant.

No. There is something “ominous” about the large scale nuclear meltdown of the Dai’Ichi plant. Very “ominous”.

The Secrecy of a government and USAID/CIA

On Sunday, March 13, 2011,0800 Tokyo time, reporter Yoichi Shimatsu reported the following –

Following a high-level meeting called by the lame-duck prime minister, Japanese agencies are no longer releasing independent reports without prior approval from the top. The censorship is being carried out following the imposition of the Article 15 Emergency Law. Official silencing of bad news is a polite way of reassuring the public. According to the chief Cabinet Secretary, reactor heat is being lowered and radiation levels are coming down. The Unit 1 reactor container is not cracked despite the explosion that destroyed its building. The explosion did not erupt out of the reactor.

So what caused the explosion that blasted away the reinforced concrete roof and walls? Silence.

USA: The White House sent in a team to consult withe US-friendly Naoto Kan government. Instead of dispatching in experts from the Department of Energy, Nuclear Safety Agency and Health Department, President Obamas sent representatives of USAID, which is cover for the CIA. (emphasis added)

The presence of these paranoiac bumblers only confirms suspicions of a top-level cover up. Why would the Agency be worried about the disaster? There are security considerations, such as regional “enemies” Pyongyang, Beijing and Moscow taking advantage of the crisis. To the contrary, China and Russia have both offered carte blanche civilian aid.

Why would Obama send CIA/USAID to an emergency nuclear disaster? Earthquake disaster? Tsunami disaster? Why?

Shimatsu goes onto suggest the team was dispatched to get ahead of the unfolding disaster and spin the news. There is no doubt that the CIA are masters at “spin” and spewing “propaganda” but there may very well be another more “ominous” reason behind Obama’s decision.  Perhaps this elite team of intelligence experts actually specialize in computer systems, like the ones that run the Fukushima Dia’Ichi and Diani Nuclear power plants. Perhaps this team specializes in killing such operational system viruses like Stuxnet, a virus that eats away at the operating system.

63 Computers Infected by the Stuxnet Virus

Back on October 5, 2010 the Daily Yomiuri reported 63 computers in Japan were infected with the Stuxnet Virus. Mr. Yomiuri provides the following details –

Stuxnet, a computer virus designed to attack servers isolated from the Internet, such as at power plants, has been confirmed on 63 personal computers in Japan since July, according to major security firm Symantec Corp.The virus does not cause any damage online, but once it enters an industrial system, it can send a certain program out of control.

Symantec says the virus reaches the servers via USB memory sticks, and warns against the careless use of such devices.

Systems at power plants, gas stations and water facilities are not connected to the Internet to protect them from cyber-attacks.

A Symantec engineer who has analyzed the virus said it was made using advanced technology, and it is highly likely a well-funded organization, not an individual, produced it. The virus has spread throughout the globe via the Internet.

After Stuxnet finds its way onto an ordinary computer via the Internet, it hides there, waiting for a USB memory stick to be connected to the computer, when it transfers itself to the memory stick. When the USB device is then connected to a computer linked to an isolated server, it can enter the system and take control of it.

As computers that harbor Stuxnet do not operate strangely, the virus can be transferred to a memory stick inadvertently.

According to the security company, the virus is designed to target a German-made program [Sieman’s] often used in systems managing water, gas and oil pipelines. The program is used at public utilities around the world, including in Japan.

The virus could cause such systems to act erratically, and it could take months to restore them to normal.

The 63 infected computers found in Japan were likely infected sometime after June [note: June 2010 – nearly four months passed before the virus was detected].

According to the company, about 60 percent of the computers that have been infected with the virus were discovered in Iran. Since September, about 30,000 computers there have been found to be infected with the virus. The country’s Industry and Mines Ministry has called the virus an electronic act of war.

Some computers at the Iranian Bushehr nuclear power plant, which is scheduled to begin operation in October, have been infected with the virus.

A supervisor at the plant said the virus has not damaged the facility’s main computer system and would not affect its planned opening.

In Japan, no public utilities have been affected by the virus. Nevertheless, the Cabinet Office’s National Information Security Center has urged electric power companies to exercise extreme care when using USB devices, and to scan any programs that may have been tampered with.

A virus/worm that was built by “a well-funded organization” that “once it enters an industrial system, it can send a certain program out of control”. That certain program is known as Siemen’s Programmable logic controller, a product TEPCO has apparently installed system wide including in the Dai’Ichi and Diani Nuclear power plant system.

How does this Stuxnet Virus relate to the USAID/CIA?

On January 16, 2011, The New York Times ran a story titled “Israeli Test on Worm Called Crucial in Iran Nuclear Delay” which details precisely how “intelligence and military experts” from the Dimona Nuclear Facility in Israel and the “Idaho National Laboratory – which is part of the Energy Department, responsible for America’s nuclear arms” appear to have teamed up to develop the first of its kind – a cyberwar weapon.

The story goes onto state –

“The Dimona complex in the Negev desert is famous as the heavily guarded heart of Israel’s never-acknowledged nuclear arms program, where neat rows of factories make atomic fuel for the arsenal.Over the past two years, according to intelligence and military experts familiar with its operations, Dimona has taken on a new, equally secret role — as a critical testing ground in a joint American and Israeli effort to undermine Iran’s efforts to make a bomb of its own.

Behind Dimona’s barbed wire, the experts say, Israel has spun nuclear centrifuges virtually identical to Iran’s at Natanz, where Iranian scientists are struggling to enrich uranium. They say Dimona tested the effectiveness of the Stuxnet computer worm, a destructive program that appears to have wiped out roughly a fifth of Iran’s nuclear centrifuges and helped delay, though not destroy, Tehran’s ability to make its first nuclear arms.

“To check out the worm, you have to know the machines,” said an American expert on nuclear intelligence. “The reason the worm has been effective is that the Israelis tried it out.”

The article goes onto report how in “2008 the German company Siemens cooperated with one of the United States premier national laboratories, in Idaho, to identify the vulnerabilities of computer controllers that the company sells to operate industrial machinery around the world – and that American intelligence agencies have identified as key equipment in Iran’s enrichment facilities.”

According to “a number of computer scientists, nuclear enrichment experts and former officials, the covert race to create Stuxnet was a joint project between the Americans and the Israelis, with some help, knowing or unknowing, from the Germans and the British.”

More recently, BBC News reported on March 4, 2011 that a “leading security expert, Ralph Langner, told a conference in California that the malicious software was designed to cripple systems that could help build an Iranian bomb.” The article went onto state that “Langner was one of the first researchers to show how Stuxnet could take control of industrial equipment.” That would be water treatment plants, oil rigs, power plants, chemical plants to name a few such targets.

Mr. Langner offered his opinion by stating “Mossad [Israel’s intelligence agency] is involved.” And then went onto suggest “that Israel was not the main driver behind the creation of Stuxnet” –

“There is only one leading source, and that is the United States,” said Mr Langner.

Investigative journalist, Wayne Madsen of Wayne Madsen Reports offers a compelling explanation of how the virus/worm works and a list of countries already affected in a recent article dated January 22, 2011 titled “Stuxnet: A violation of US computer security law“ –

Stuxnet was specifically designed to attack supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) computer systems. These systems control everything from electrical power grids and chemical processing plants to the computers that operate traffic light and rail systems. Stuxnet disabled SCADA systems not only in Iran but also in India (where India’s satellite program may have been severely impacted), Pakistan, Indonesia, Germany, Canada, China, Malaysia, South Korea, Russia, Kazakhstan, United Kingdom, Finland, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Brazil, Australia, Brunei, Netherlands, Taiwan, Myanmar, Bangladesh, Thailand, Belarus, Denmark, Bahrain, Oman, Kuwait, and the United States. Stuxnet was found on 63 computers in Japan. New Zealand, Japan, and Hong Kong issued alerts about Stuxnet’s impact on their SCADA systems. Britain’s integrated national rail transport network was reported to be particularly vulnerable to Stuxnet. Turkey reacted to Stuxnet by mandating a ″National Virtual Environment Security Policy.″(emphasis added)

By the end of September of last year, over 100,000 computers worldwide had been infected by Stuxnet.So much for The New York Times’  specious report that the worm did little damage. Industrial control system security specialists from the chemical, oil, and gas industries expressed concern that the U.S. government was less-than-forthcoming about the effects of Stuxnet on their industries. The computer security firm Symantec appears to have been laundering information to private industry from the government.

China, which feared Stuxnet could infect its SCADA systems, issued a national security report about the worm, especially its impact on oil drilling systems. WMR has learned from its Beijing sources that China is growing tired of Israelis, in general, and international banks like Goldman Sachs having strong ties to Israel, in particular, over what it sees as an attempt by Israel and certain international banks to undermine China’s new strong industrial and financial position in the world. Representatives of the People’s Bank of China, China’s central bank, are wary of their contacts with Israelis and bankers and WMR has learned that Japanese central bankers shared the concerns of their Chinese counterparts when it comes to Israel and firms like Goldman Sachs. Chinese authorities were particularly incensed over initial disinformation reports, distributed by the Pentagon-linked media, that China created Stuxnet.

Although Israel and American military and intelligent services appear to have teamed up to develop Stuxnet with their primary target being Iran’s Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant, it is painfully clear the virus/worm slithered its way around the globe infecting thousands upon thousands of computers doing untold incalculable damage.

Knowing this Stuxnet virus infected 63 computers in Japan as of Octobe 5, 2010 and knowing that the US sent in the USAID/CIA rather than the US nuclear emergency experts, and knowing that there is a huge amount of secrecy encircling the Fukushima Dai’Ichi nuclear plant meltdown, might it be reasonable to surmise that the Stuxnet virus, a cyberwar weapon, is responsible for the Fukushima Dai’Ichi nuclear power plant meltdown?

Remember, the public has been told the reactor cores heated up due to a lack of water. The lack of water was blamed on the failure of the emergency diesel generators damaged due to the tsunami, but no one has offered an explanation about the battery back up to the generators. Did the battery back-up system work? Maybe at Diani? Why not Dai’Ichi? Afterall, the two plants are like kissing cousins. Interestingly, in today’s report issued by TEPCO it is stated that both plants were hit by a 14-metre tsunami. So why one plant appears untouched while the other is in full meltdown?

Another clue

Given all that is factually reported above, it becomes important to take a closer look at Sunday, March 20, 2011, 60 Minutes coverage of Japan’s disaster where Scott Pelley interviews a State Department Fellow named Julia Nesheiwat. Pelley describes Ms. Nesheiwat as an official with the State Department who was on the ground in Tokyo at the beginning of this mega disaster. Knowing nothing about Ms. Nesheiwat nor her expertise in emergency nuclear disasters, we did a quick search of her name and learned that she is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and is sponsored through CFR as a Senior Fellow by Hitachi Ltd. She is assigned to Tokyo, Japan.  The following is her bio provided by the Council on Foreign Relations –

Julia Nesheiwat is a senior advisor in the economic bureau at the U.S. Department of State where she focuses on energy issues for Europe and Asia. She also serves as advisor to the Special Envoy for Eurasian Energy, Ambassador Richard Morningstar. Prior to joining the State Department, she was chief of staff for policy at the Office of the Director of National Intelligence where she focused on international energy security. Julia previously served on the Presidential Commission on Weapons of Mass Destruction chaired by Judge Laurence Silberman and Senator Chuck Robb where she led the North Korea focus group. She is a former military intelligence officer in the U.S. Army, where she served in Afghanistan and Iraq. Julia received her BA from Stetson University and her MA from Georgetown University. (emphasis added)

During her fellowship tenure, Julia aims to propose a strategic U.S.–Japan energy partnership focusing on diversification of supply, clean production technology, and nuclear energy development. Her project will also explore ways in which the U.S.–Japan relationship and respective energy policies can be leveraged to influence Chinese energy and climate change policy.

Out of all of the professional staff serving at the Tokyo Embassy, why would the State Department have a career intelligence officer serve as America’s spokesperson regarding the Dai’Ichi Nuclear Power Plant? Why wouldn’t the State Department have a Nuclear Engineer speak to the unfolding tragedy?

So, why Ms. Nesheiwat and what exactly is her nuclear energy expertise?

Well, we know the Stuxnet virus “program” was started under the Bush administration prior to his leaving office in 2008, and we know Obama sped it up (see NYT article) once he took office. We also know Ms. Nesheiwat currently serves as an “advisor to the Special Envoy for Eurasian Energy, Ambassador Richard Morningstar” who is also a member on the Council of Foreign Relations.  We know she served as chief of staff for policy during the Bush years at the Office of the Director of National Intelligence where she focused on international energy security, and we know she managed focus groups for the “Presidential Commission on Weapons of Mass Destruction chaired by Judge Laurence Silberman and Senator Chuck Robb”. Take a look at the organizational chart for the DNI by clicking HERE.  This is a substantial clandestine intelligence network of governmental agencies.

The DNI’s ‘Decision Advantage’ reads –

We in the Intelligence Community have a solemn mandate: The responsibility to provide relevant and objective analysis to customers across the government—from law enforcement officials, to warfighters, to the President, and the Congress. Our job is to create a decision advantage to the leaders of our country. By decision advantage, we mean the ability to prevent strategic surprise, understand emerging threats and track known threats, while adapting to the changing world. We also have an operational role, in some circumstances, to confront or remove foreign threats to the nation.

I don’t know about you, but the latter part of the above statement would certainly indicate DNI’s operational capability to create a collaboration between Israel’s Dimona Facility and Idaho’s National Laboratory to develop the Stuxnet virus so as  “to confront or remove foreign threats to the nation” such as a nuclear Iran. Now we know why WWIII w/Iran has been scheduled for a later date.

Understand, Ms. Nesheiwat served as Chief of Staff for policy to the DNI where she would have been intimately exposed to the development of the Stuxnet Virus.  Indeed, as the Chief of policy, she would have been tasked to sell and update the development of the virus to members in the know on Capitol Hill.

Therefore, when interviewed by Scott Pelley one needs to see Ms. Nesheiwat’s words through this lens, rather than as a typical corporate spokesperson for the Embassy. No,  she wasn’t talking to you and me, she was talking to the members on Capitol Hill and the CFR who know full well this unmitigated disaster was caused by the US/Israel Stuxnet virus.

Let’s take a look at the interview and what she said. First, a bit of background is needed to set it up. Recall, the US CIA/USAID team was in Tokyo on Saturday, March 12, and by Tuesday, the Japanese government still had not granted the US team access to the emergency operation facilities. On Tuesday, March 15 14, a full four days after the CIA/USAID team arrived, the American government issues an “ominous private message” to the Japanese. Here’s a transcript of this portion of the interview –

At 2:27 into the broadcast –

Pelley states “the US gave the Japanese an ominous private warning”

Miss Nesheiwat explains “that if, you know, we don’t expand the efforts, will, will require heroic uh work done that could be, you know, quite devastating for the workers.”

Pelley asks “What did we mean by that?”

Miss Nesheiwat responds “that means they could very well lose their lives.”

Pelley asks “An official with the US government told the Japanese that your people are going to have to die to save that plant unless you let us help you?”

Miss Nesheiwat answers “Yes.”

Can you imagine, the US government tells the Japanese government their people will die if operations aren’t expanded to include the US? I daresay this “ominous private warning” wasn’t based on hubris, it was based on the fact that the US government knows how to kill the Stuxnet virus, which is the real cause of the Dai’Ichi Nuclear meltdown and not the lame disinformation of the back-up energy systems some have suggested.

The workers “could very well lose their lives” IF the US isn’t granted immediate access?!?

Why wouldn’t TEPCO and the Japanese government allow US immediate access? Could it be that TEPCO and the Japanese government were unaware of the Stuxnet virus eating away at its operational systems and have greater expertise in such situations than US spies? Or could it be they knew and wanted nothing to do with the very government that took a manageable situation and turned it into a full-blown global crisis? And could it be that even after granting the US spies access it was too late to stop the rogue cyberwar weapon from chomping away at the power systems?

Let’s review the facts as we now know them.  First, we know Japan’s air and water have been directly affected by the radiation fallout from the Dai’Ichi nuclear power plant. We know both of the Dai’Ichi and Diani power plants were physically hit with the same level of water from the tsunami and the verocity of the earthquake. We know the diesel fueled back-up generators had a back-up battery system as well, but we’ve heard no report on the latter’s failure or success. We know the Diani plant had problems in the first two to three days, but secured the plant reporting no events since March 13, 2011. We know the Dai’Ichi power plant has seen a nuclear related event many times a day over a 12 day period. We know the Japanese government went into “secrecy” mode on or around March 12, 2011. We know the US sent CIA experts into Japan on or around March 12, 2011, rather than nuclear/energy emergency experts. We know the US and Israel created a worm called Stuxnet which infected 63 Japanese computers by October 5, 2010, and those are the ones we know of. We know the Stuxnet Virus has infected hundreds if not thousands of other computers in dozens of other countries culminating in untold damages. We know the US government gave the Japanese government an “ominous private warning” on Tuesday, March 15 14, 2011, a full four days after the original event, that the workers will die if the US wasn’t allowed allowed immediate access to emergency operations. And we know, the individual who was tasked to tell the 60 Minutes viewers about the “ominous private warning” spent her entire career in intelligence services, served the Director of National Intelligence as the Chief lobbyist on Capitol Hill and is sponsored by Hitachi Ltd.

The facts are the facts. Trying to spin them through misdirection or misinformation is a telltale sign of one’s complicity. There is no question the Stuxnet virus infected the Dai’Ichi plant and to believe otherwise is sheer folly. There is no question those plant workers will die, because of their heroic measures to save their country and you and me. There is no question parts of Japan will become a wasteland for century’s to come. There is no question others will die due to the fallout. There is no question the nuclear energy lobby will pay dearly for generations to come.

The NYT gets to have the last word –

The worm itself now appears to have included two major components. One was designed to send Iran’s nuclear centrifuges spinning wildly out of control. Another seems right out of the movies: The computer program also secretly recorded what normal operations at the nuclear plant looked like, then played those readings back to plant operators, like a pre-recorded security tape in a bank heist, so that it would appear that everything was operating normally while the centrifuges were actually tearing themselves a part.
